How Zinc Wire works

Zinc wire is a type of metal wire used for thermal spray coatings. It is made of pure zinc or zinc alloys and is commonly used in the corrosion protection of steel structures, such as bridges, pipelines, and storage tanks.

  1. 1
    Select Alloy

Zinc Wire is matched to the coating chemistry the job requires.

  2. 2
    Spool The Gun

Wire is fed through the flame or arc spray gun drive rolls.

  3. 3
    Melt The Tip

Flame or electric arc melts the wire as it reaches the nozzle.

  4. 4
    Atomize Onto Part

Compressed air sprays molten droplets onto the prepared substrate.

  5. 5
    Build Thickness

Passes overlap until the specified coating thickness is reached.

  6. 6
    Inspect Deposit

Bond, texture, and thickness are checked before the part ships.

Product Overview

Product overview

Zinc wire is a type of thermal spray metalizing wire used for thermal spray coatings. It is made of pure zinc or zinc alloys and is commonly used in the corrosion protection of steel structures, such as bridges, pipelines, and storage tanks.

During the thermal spray coating process, the zinc wire is melted and atomized in a spray gun, creating fine particles that are propelled onto the surface to be coated. As the zinc particles solidify, they form a protective layer that acts as a barrier against corrosion.

Zinc Thermal Spray Wire

Zinc thermal spray wire coatings provide excellent corrosion protection due to their high level of cathodic protection. Zinc thermal spray wire is more reactive than steel, which means it will corrode before the steel does, providing a sacrificial layer of protection to the underlying metal. Zinc coatings also provide good adhesion to the substrate and can be applied to both flat and curved surfaces.

Zinc wire is an excellent corrosion-resistant material in both atmospheric and marine conditions. Wire coatings of these materials operate as sacrificial anodes, galvanically shielding iron or steel substrates when applied using either the electric arc spray or combustion wire technique. Decades of field testing have clearly proved that these coatings are significantly more effective and last far longer than hot dip galvanizing. Coatings of these materials are frequently employed in the electronics industry for EMI and RF shielding, or as conductive coatings on capacitors, using the electric arc spray gun method.
By combining the benefits of both components, ZnAl coatings frequently offer superior corrosion resistance than pure zinc or aluminum. This is especially true where there are fissures and residual moisture and contaminants, as well as where the coating has been scratched or scraped, resulting in coating voids and exposed substrate.

Zinc Coated Wire

Zinc Coated Wire is an alternative method that melts Zinc or Zinc Alloy metals and then rapidly impels the liquid Zinc scraps onto a prepared substrate, resulting in a lamellar or multilayer coating. Metalizing Spray gun, as it is commonly known, is an extremely proficient and shown technology for consumption control, providing galvanic as well as boundary coating security to iron and steel.

Zinc coated wire coatings can be applied using several thermal spray gun processes, including flame spray, arc spray, and plasma spray. The selection of the process depends on the application requirements and the thickness of the coating needed.

In addition to corrosion protection, zinc wire coatings are also used for their aesthetic properties. They can be applied to metal structures to provide a decorative finish and to improve their appearance.
